Obesity in children leads to obesity in adults

Although there has been a slight downward trend since 2000, the number of obese children has increased by two to three times compared to 30 years ago.The living environment surrounding children has changed significantly compared to the past.
The causes of the increase in childhood obesity include a decrease in calorie consumption due to increased indoor play, excess calorie intake due to the westernization of diet, and disordered lifestyles such as night owls.
Figure 1 shows the results of a survey that children who spend a lot of time playing TV or video games tend to become obese or overweight because they lack exercise and are more likely to have disordered eating habits.

It has been found that even in childhood, if the degree of obesity is high, triglycerides, blood pressure, blood sugar, etc. increase, and HDL cholesterol levels decrease, and there is a high possibility of developing metabolic syndrome. Therefore, new diagnostic criteria for childhood metabolic syndrome have been established, and early detection and early prevention efforts are underway. However, the incidence of lifestyle-related diseases due to obesity in children is not as high as in adults.Another big problem of being obese as a child is that it makes you more susceptible to health problems in adulthood.

Childhood obesity leads to childhood obesity, childhood obesity to adolescent obesity, adolescent obesity to adulthood obesity, and childhood obesity to adult obesity with high probability. It is known that 25% of childhood obesity, 40% of childhood obesity, and 70-80% of adolescent obesity progress to adult obesity (Figure 2).
The reason why adolescent obesity leads to adult obesity with a high probability is that physique is formed and lifestyle habits become established, making it difficult to improve obesity.Furthermore, obese children are at increased risk of lifestyle-related diseases in adulthood and are more likely to develop coronary artery diseases such as myocardial infarction and angina pectoris.
Therefore, prevention and elimination of obesity in childhood is very important for the health in adulthood.

As with adults, ``moderate exercise'', ``appropriate diet'', and ``regular lifestyle'' are important for preventing and eliminating obesity in children.
In addition, unhealthy lifestyle habits acquired in childhood tend to be inherited even after they grow up.In order to live a healthy and happy life into the future, let's acquire the right lifestyle habits from an early age.
