Food to beat summer fatigue

What is summer fatigue?

Summer fatigue is a condition in which symptoms such as loss of appetite and fatigue appear due to a disturbance in the autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system consists of the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system, which react to stimuli regardless of one's will and regulate the body's functions, and each system works in the opposite direction.

Sympathetic nervous system: Works when you are actively moving your body
● Parasympathetic nervous system: Works when you want to rest

If this balance is disturbed, it will manifest as physical discomfort, so it is important to avoid staying in hot places for long periods of time and to avoid repeated extreme temperature changes in order to avoid overactivating the autonomic nervous system.
Also, make sure to eat a balanced diet and get enough sleep in a moderately cool environment.

Tips for eating to avoid summer fatigue

Due to symptoms such as lack of appetite and fatigue, people tend to eat only light foods and noodles that are easy to swallow in the summer, but this will not relieve summer fatigue.
Create a rhythm for replenishing your energy by eating three meals a day.
By having rice, side dishes, and vegetables at every meal, you can get an even intake of nutrients.

Vitamin B1, found in pork and soybeans, helps convert carbohydrates into energy and is also effective in alleviating fatigue. Allicin, found in onions and garlic, is also known to bind with vitamin B1 and prolong its effects, so it is recommended to take them together.

Along with staying hydrated, it is also important to replenish vitamins and minerals.
Be sure to consume plenty of vitamin C, which boosts your body's immune system, and potassium, which helps maintain muscle function and blood pressure.
When you don't have an appetite, it's recommended to use spices such as curry powder, which have the effect of stimulating your appetite. Eat regular meals and stay hydrated to stay healthy this summer!
